Tapping noise after top end rebuild

So. 

i rebuilt the top end to replace the cam chain tensioner wheel and guide with new ones. it all went together fine but since the rebuild its been making a fairly loud tapping noise as if th valve gap is too large. iv checked  the valves several times and even popped the top off the engine again to have a look and see if something rattles loose. 

Any thoughts what it might be?

  I recently adjusted my valves and got a tapping sound after the adjustment. I had to redo the valve heights.  I used the actual measurements in the manual not the slight larger one that Brendan recommended as the tapping was loud.
